LYRICS
FATHER SONG
The whole world
seems to sleep but you can hear this one man weep
A father looks down at his baby son
And with tears in his eyes he whispers prayerful cries
that he will be the man that his boy needs to see
He prays
Lord I know I'm not the best
My righteous acts are like filthiness
But all I really want is to be more like you
And when my son can understand
When he's grown to be a man
I hope that he will see-- the God in me
He looks down and has to smile, it's been such a longwhil
since he's watched his own boy playing.
Through the dirty window glass he can see the touchdown pass
and his heart fills with father's pride
He says
I remember the days when I was a boy
my life was filled with simple joys
but now my flesh and blood is just like me
Days have come and days have gone
and now my son is almost grown
all I want for him to see-- is the God in me
The whole world wrestles on so the Father sent His Son
For man to be redeemed his boy must pay the price
So He healed the sick and lame and made a blind man see again
But now the time had come for final sacrifice
He prayed I've lived my life by your command-
I've walked on water as if it was land
You've said that I'm your son in whom you're well pleased
But you've left me here with cup in hand
and though I cannot understand
I know the world must see... the God in me
So daddy through me forgive their sins
through my blood may they be cleansed
Forgive these men as they nail me to a tree.
Through my stripes may they be healed
Let Your glory be revealed
Show through Calvary-- that You're God in me
